After the demise of King Taejo, the founder and the 1st monarch of the Joseon Dynasty in 1408, the King Taejong, the 3rd monarch of the Dynasty, built royal tomb for the King Taejo at this location. Throughout the Joseon Dynasty, other kings and queens were buried here also.
